Just a short note for people being in ICAF or Portland (Oregon) in general during 23.-25.5. Critic & editor Ville Hänninen and I will have a talk on Finnish comics and something completely different on Thursday 23th. That’ll take place in Floating World Comics which I’m excited to visit, since Jason has been selling stuff from Kutikuti for a long time already. Small exhibition as well. Oh yes, that’ll happen from 6.30 to 9.00 pm. Welcome!

Couple of new exhibitions happening about now: What’s Up North is an illustration exhibition in Malmö, Sweden open from 3.5. to 8.9. Just a bit later opening in Seian is Instant Cosmic that’s a contemporary comic exhibition taking place in Light Gallery at the Seian University of Arts and Design. That’s open for one month starting 18.5. and ending 18.6. If you happen to be around, go. I’ve got couple of works in both.

There’s a new (3rd) issue of Latvian Popper Magazine out with a truckful of artists featured, some works from me as well. That’s free illustrations all without any themes. For the release there’s an exhibition called Astral Blackout that’s opening in Kalnciema KV. Gallery, Riga on 30.3. Read’n'Go!

That’s new book you’re seeing there, called ‘Beating’. It’s a 128-page big size on in four colour, gathering images from 2003-2013, mostly from my sold out fanzines and picture books, images released here and there, some illustrations etc etc, +200 images in total. One big mess. The book is published together by Huuda Huuda and La 5e Couche, with help from Bries and MMMNNNRRRG. If you’re interested, you can buy this book as well directly from me.

Meanwhile, I’m noticing my drawing is getting closer and closer to Dilbert - just look at the cover – that’s simple, stupid and fast to do. True future way of life.

April in Brussels!

Friends of Orval – I’ll be in Brussels and have an exhibition along with Denis Deprez in Petits papiers (Rue Bodenbroeck 8A) 12.-31.4., opening is 11.4. at 18.00. There’ll also be some signing in Tropismes (9.4. from 16.30 to 18.30, Galerie des Princes 11) and with Brecht Vandenbroucke & his excellent new book White Cube in MultiBd (10.4. from 16.00 to 19.00, Bd Anspach 122-124). I’ll ship some issues of brand new Kuti (#27) so you can pick it up there for free… and most likely there’ll be available the 4th Book of Hope in French AND my new picture book called Beating. More about it later. Anyway, hope to see you there!

Eat Your Clone

Cover for the Finnish edition of Sam Pink’s book I Am Going To Clone Myself Then Kill The Clone And Eat It that’s soon out from Poesia, which by the way provides the best of Finnish new poetry. Buy all their books and you won’t be disappointed – post millenium times can still bring something creative.

Just for your information: about ten years ago a cover I did for a book I don’t quite remember atm was honoured with a prize of ‘The Uggliest Book Cover Of The Year’ at the Turku Book Fair here in Finland. The prize was given based on people’s votes. It made me blush. Anyway, with this cover for Sam’s book I kind of aimed to win that prize again.

And the main thing: it’s a great book that made me laugh most of the time!

Samuel in Brazil!

Thanks to Rachel and A Bolha Editora Samuel is now out in Brazil as well! Made a new cover for it that’s above. You can take a peak inside in this clip from Bolha. Meanwhile I’ve got +50 pages done for the 2nd book, which is kind of delayed. Anyway, not really hurrying with it as I’m trying to re-figure to whole thing. What I can tell is that the book will be quite different from the 1st one, about the same length but different partitions inside, not just episode after episode. Pretty excited on what I’ve found and now just waiting I’ll really have few months time to concentrate on taking it all to the next level. I’ve scheduled this book to be out Spring 2014 but meanwhile you can most likely find some of the material released here and there in advance. AND I shall finish The Last Book of Hope before that as well, until next autumn. This book will end the five book serie. It took me 10 years to finish it – that’s around 14% of life of an average Finnish male.
